CASS staff Member becomes Minister in the New Cabinet

Following the replacement of Dr. Pierre Damien Habumuremyi as Prime Minister by Rt.Hon. Anastase Murekezi, the cabinet in place was dissolved. On the 24th July 2014, President of the Republic of Rwanda His Excellency Paul Kagame appointed the new cabinet whose members were sworn in on the same day. Among the new members in the cabinet includes the Minister of Public Sector and Labour Hon. Judith Uwizeye who was an academic staff member in the school of Law/College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS).

Reacting to the appointment for Hon. Judith Uwizeye, the Acting Dean of the School of Law/CASS, Dr. François Xavier Kalinda expressed his joy on behalf of the school and College. He said: “We are very proud of this appointment to the high profile position of our colleague. This is very encouraging and proves that the government values the university since for the last appointments of cabinet, university staff members were entrusted to be part of cabinet”.

Judith Uwizeye , Minister of Public Service and Labour

Hon. Judith Uwizeye was born on 20th August 1979. She graduated at the National University of Rwanda with Bachelor’s Degree in 2006. Later on, she pursued her studies at University of Groningen in the Netherlands where she obtained a Master’s degree in International Economic and Business Law in 2008.
Professionally, in 2006, Honourable Judith Uwizeye began teaching in the faculty of Law in the then National University of Rwanda before the merging of all public higher learning institutions into University of Rwanda. With this reform, the faculty of Law became a school under the College of Arts and Social Sciences. In addition to her duties as an academic staff, Hon. Judith Uwizeye was the Deputy Coordinator of CASS/ Legal Aid Clinic and a member of board for the Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA).
